“Shhh, don’t wake up the beast,” she said,

While tip-toeing through my mind.

The power that you’ll find there,

Withstands the test of time.

Leave it dormant,  in that room –

Make sure to close all of the blinds.

Be careful, when you move –

Do lock the door behind.

For when awakened, it tends to ooze –

Trickling on electric currents’ ride.

A drastic change within the mood –

Heartbeat speeds up to time.

Adrenaline fuel links to limbs –

Passive no longer in mind.

Action is required to contain this beast –

To save my soul this time.

Ten deep breaths – to each exhale –

Negative charge unwind.

Beast oozes back through that door –

Locked away, to be used at the end of times.

About Dawn Marie DiMartino

I had lived most of my youth in New York, but have been a native of Florida for over 20+ years. I am recently separated, a mother of 2 adult children and I am a retired analyst. My passion for writing and drawing started at a very early age. I have continued through my adult life taking a pen to hand and compiling my innermost thoughts, feelings and expressions on paper. My writing and drawing keep me in a calming frame of mind when I am putting it all down. Some/Most of my writings can tell you about my personal story. I have published 4 poetry books, 3 children's books, and have been involved in 4 anthologies.
